Install Ceiling Fan
Ceiling fans are functional and stylish additions to any residence or commercial building. If your plans involve installing fans in rooms that already have ceiling outlets, then the installation process should be quite straightforward. For rooms that do not have any overhead boxes, it will be best to consider hiring a professional to help you run the various wires across your home’s ceiling and through the various walls. The installation process should typically follow these steps:
1. Switch off the Power at the Circuit Panel
You are likely to come across various wires in your ceiling box. Some will be wired to other circuits that you may not be using at the moment. To ensure that you remain safe during installation, make sure that power to the entire house is switched off.
2. Get Rid of Bulbs and their Accompanying Covers
Make sure that you have removed all the bulbs located in the regions where you will be working. Once removed, you should proceed to unscrew the nuts and screws that are holding them in place.
3. Remove Wire Nuts and Lower the Fixture Base
As you are doing this, be sure to get rid of the electrical tape as well. Wire nuts comes in a set of 2-3 colors: white (neutral), black (hot), green (ground).
4. Disconnect All Wires
You need to disconnect all the wires being used by the current ceiling box. Before doing this, begin by loosening the clamp screw that is used to secure incoming wires to your ceiling box. This should be followed by the removal of the box.
5. Install the Ceiling Box and the Adjustable Hanger Bar
It is very important to heed the directions provided by the manufacturer when installing the two. Many hanger bars are often installed by passing them through the hole that has been left behind by the previous electrical box. Once done, proceed to attach your new ceiling box to the hanger bar that you have just installed.
6. Assemble Your Ceiling Fan
You should note that ceiling fans tend to be very heavy. As such, you will need to provide them with some support as you are attaching your wires. The wiring schemes will normally differ depending on the model. This is determined by whether the fan is using a speed or light control. Therefore, pay attention to the instructions in the manual.
7. Attach the Fan to the Ceiling Box
Normally, this process involves the use of a few screws and a screw driver.
8. Install the Fan Blades and Trim
Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer when installing the two. When done, turn the power back on to test whether the ceiling fan is working as it should.
